Ace actor Ashish Vidyarthi is excited about his recently-released web show, Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond. In a recent interview, he shared that it was an honour for him to be able to work in this new web series. It was released on April 25 on JioCinema. Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond is a war room drama that will highlight the incidents in Pulwama and Balakot. Ashish Vidyarthi talked about his character in the show, which will showcase many important stories related to the incident. In an interview, Ashish Vidyarthi revealed, “It was an honour to work in Ranneeti. The interesting part of my character is its detailing. It’s about events that happen behind the scenes. I got goosebumps when I was shooting for this series, and I’m truly thankful to the whole team for making this series possible," he said.He further revealed that the web series will show the actions taken in the aftermath of the attack and what actually happened. Ranneeti, the latest web series produced by Sunjoy Waddhwa, has quickly become a standout hit, captivating audiences with its authentic portrayal of defense-related stories. Praised for its meticulous attention to detail and grand scale, Ranneeti offers a gripping narrative that showcases the complexities and heroics of military life.&nbsp;Sunjoy Waddhwa driven by a long-held passion for defense subjects, saw the potential of OTT platforms to bring such a story to life in a way traditional TV or film could not. In an exclusive chat with&nbsp;MoneyControl,&nbsp;producer Sunjoy Waddhwa, he spoke about what inspired him to make the masterpiece, OTT future in India and his take on current OTT trends.1. What inspired the creation and how did the concept come alive into being a web show? Why a web show and not a film, for example?"To create a show based on defence has been a long-standing passion for me and a show on hybrid warfare was never attempted before in India. The constraints of television in terms of scale and time limitations poses major challenges in fully realising the ambitious vision for this project. With the changing media landscape, it was an opportunity to expand our creative horizons from traditional television to the digital realm. It provided a greater scope for storytelling, reaching a wider audience, and experimenting with different formats that might not have been feasible in the past. By leveraging the episodic format on OTT platforms, one has the opportunity to delve into the nuances of the defence-related subject matter, develop multi-layered characters, and weave intricate narratives that can unfold over the course of multiple episodes. The flexibility and extended runtime of episodic content on digital platforms allow for a deeper exploration of storylines that might not have been feasible within the confines of a traditional television format or a single film. OTT also has a wider and diverse audience reach compared to the traditional channels.The concept and story idea was narrated to me by Sanjay Chopra who is a pilot himself. I really liked it as I was looking for a good defence-based subject and hence we started working on it. Collaborating with someone who is familiar with the subject matter allows you to create a more immersive experience"2. You come from a family business background to then jump into, say, filmmaking, how did that transition happen?Well, yes, I do come from a business family background. The television landscape was evolving rapidly with the emergence of private channels and there was an opportunity to explore new avenues. It was a bold move to embrace new challenges, but I guess the excitement and dynamism of the entertainment industry compelled me to take that plunge. Stepping out of the comfort zone into a completely new field was a risk, but I am glad I followed my instincts to explore new opportunities in the entertainment media industry.3. But in which case then are there any specific challenges that you would face when you're producing a web show of this scale and this magnitude, especially when you compare it to traditional television?Both mediums are different. Television is more character &amp; emotion based and we need to hold that throughout as it’s a longer running daily format. It is not easy to keep the audiences hooked on a particular show for years.Producing a web show of significant scale and magnitude on platforms like OTT poses unique challenges compared to traditional television. A show like Ranneeti needs to be navigated effectively as it is a film narrative which is divided into episodic web series. The magnitude is huge and one of the primary challenges is maintaining the pacing and structure of the film narrative when transitioning it into an episodic format. Films typically have a linear progression with a defined beginning, middle, and end, whereas web series require breaking down the story into episodes with cliffhangers or compelling hooks to retain audience interest.&nbsp;Adapting the film's visual aesthetics, cinematography, and production values to suit the episodic format without compromising quality is a significant challenge for creators and production teams. While films have the advantage of a single, unified visual style and production design, web series must maintain visual consistency across multiple episodes while often working with constrained budgets and resources.4. What would you say is your perspective on the growth of web series in the country?And how have you seen the space evolve and how do you see the space evolving, especially for a show of the magnitude of, say, Ranneeti?As we all know, India is a diverse market with multiple languages and regional preferences. The coexistence of GEC &amp; OTT platforms in the media and entertainment landscape is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. The OTT industry in India is still evolving, with stakeholders navigating challenges around content strategy and monetisation. Developing sustainable monetisation strategies is a key challenge for OTT platforms in India as the landscape of advertisers shifting to OTT platforms is continuously evolving. Decision-makers are evaluating the metrics of different content formats, genres and audience segments to determine the budget allocation and strategies that balance the production costs and revenue potential of big-budget and smaller-scale shows.OTT platforms have provided creators with the freedom to explore diverse and often more realistic settings and narratives. Stories that are based in heartland and more relatable. This shift towards authentic storytelling rooted in local cultures and experiences has resonated with audiences, contributing to the popularity of OTT content. The audience relates to the characters and story telling. So according to me, the future in India holds great promise as the digital streaming industry continues to evolve. Having said that, the traditional GEC will continue to play a significant role as they reach out to mass audiences in India. Both cater to different audience segments and complement each other.The co-existence of GEC and OTT signifies a period of transition where viewers have access to a broad content choice across different platforms and the advertisers have multi channel marketing opportunities to maximise brand visibility among TV and digital audience. So, I would say the OTT industry is still at evolving stages into an investment mode currently and trying to figure out various aspects of monetisation.5. Can you tell us a bit about the process that you went through with Ranneeti?When the initial idea was presented to me, I decided to move the project forward to produce it. This led to discussions with Jio for further development. The unforeseen challenge of the pandemic impacted the progress of the show causing delays in implementation. But in hindsight, I feel it gave us a lot of time in terms of writing and planning as it was a difficult show to write and execute.The show was about Indian Airforce, Indian Military and about an event which is in public domain. Representing the Indian Armed Forces authentically comes with several specific challenges due to the sensitive nature of the subject and the need to uphold accuracy and integrity in portraying our defence forces. As makers, we were clear that we need to balance engaging narratives with realistic portrayals and ethical storytelling along-with positive representation of military personnel. Sensitivity to the human aspects of service members, veterans, and their families requires a delicate approach to avoid sensationalism or distortion of real-life experiences.We reached out to MOD to ensure that we are complying within legal guidelines, clearances, and approvals for showcasing specific defence-related content, insignia, uniforms, etc. To avoid any inaccuracies in portraying the details, we had a defence consultant in our team who had first-hand experience in defence-related matters. He ensured the accuracy and creditability of the content, went through all the scripts, had major interactions with the director, production designer, costume designer and was present on the sets on particular days when required. Careful attention to detail to terminology usage, dress codes, mannerisms, and factual consistency was incorporated. The team focussed on the finer details during the writing, production and execution stages to maintain the integrity of their portrayal of the Indian armed forces.At the production level, this show demanded high production standards in terms of locations, scale, action sequences, and technical aspects, like aerial sequences and cockpit scenes. We collaborated with experienced professionals, like aerial choreographer Steven Moth, whose expertise brought a cinematic quality to the project, elevating its visual impact and narrative depth. Steven has worked on projects like Mission Impossible, Dunkrik, etc. Special technicians were flown from Norway. A project of mammoth scale involving the Indian Armed Forces requires comprehensive planning along with significant logistical support and resources like military bases, equipments, etc. We used real military artillery &amp; fighter jets for our shoots. We shot across various locations in multiple cities and countries to bring together a cohesive production.6. We are seeing a lot of adaptations of foreign shows in India, for OTT. What is your take on that?The adaptation has to emotionally connect with audiences in that specific country. In India, cultural identity is more necessary in the adaptations as it is closely related with the society for which it is created. Literal translation of a show does not resonate with audiences. Adapting a foreign show to a new setting involves more than just translating dialogue or changing locations—it requires a deep understanding of the target audience's cultural norms, values and preferences.For the Indian adaptation of ‘Your Honor,’ that we produced, the storyline was set in Punjab. The adaptation retained the core ethical dilemma faced by the judge but reimagined the legal system, societal dynamics, and familial relationships to suit the Indian context. We added more characters to expand the world of the series infusing it with fresh perspectives and complexities. By taking the basic core of the original show we craft a narrative that resonates with the audience while staying true to the essence of the source material.7. But do you think it's easier to adapt?Adapting a story for a new medium or audience is indeed a complex and challenging task for the writers as it comes with its own set difficulties. Staying true to the original story is a fundamental aspect of successful adaptation. The challenge lies in honouring the essence of the story that inspired the adaptation in the first place while authentically connecting with the cultural nuances and sensibilities of the new audience. The balance is important as one has to maintain the sanctity of the original story.8.What are the future projects for OTT that Sphereorigins is working on?There are some exciting projects in the works for OTT &amp; GEC. We are also collaborating with international partners to create diverse content which shall be announced soon. &nbsp;

MUMBAI: Sony LIV’s latest drama-thriller, Your Honor produced for Applause Entertainment by Sphereorigins, is all set to release. In a special interaction with indiantelevision.com, Sphereorigins founder Sunjoy Waddhwa shed light on the making of the series. The original Israeli series was created by Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach and distributed by Yes Studios. The Indian adaptation is helmed by Shool fame, E Niwas. The series is headlined in India by popular Bollywood actor Jimmy Sheirgill. The makers decided to cast Sheirgill because they wanted a face who can look more relatable to the audiences, who looks like a family man and not just a judge. The series was shot in 2019. It took 65 days to shoot the entire series, but seven months went into research, followed by four to five recce of the location. While in reality most of the mafias were based out of North India and Mumbai, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are usually shown as the crime capital. Hence, Waddhwa decided to take a different route and chose the backdrop of Ludhiana, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Mumbai believing it will give a different tone, texture and colour to the series. Around 60 to 70 per cent of the series was shot in Punjab. More than 125 people were involved in creating this drama thriller. Waddhwa says, “A lot of effort went into the pre-production and designing the look and character of actors, giving authentic touch in terms of language and costume. The director, writer, production designer, they all worked collectively to give the show a more rustic feel.” In the series, Bishan Khosla (Jimmy Sheirgill), is a reputed judge whose teenage son Abeer (Pulkit Makol) is involved in a hit and run case. The victim of the accident is the son of a gangster. So, a lot of time went into the legalities. Waddhwa sought help from advocates and legal advisers to understand the details. He mentions, “My takeaway from this has been that the importance of having the script in hand and working properly as per the script and doing good research makes life easier.” As the shooting took place in the months of December and January, it was extremely cold. Apart from that, technicians and technical crew and fight master contributed to make it a scaled up version of television. As it is not a VFX-heavy series, the makers relied more on shoot material. “The entire shot taking and story thought process is very different as compared to a normal series. It is more like an extended film rather than a series. Most importantly, there was no set of rules, that it has to be made like an OTT show,” he further adds. When asked about dealing with comparison to the US adaption, Waddhwa quips, “For a Hindi-speaking audience it is a completely different show. Because this is in the dynamics of our situation. What value you add to the adaptation makes all the difference.” The original rights of the series belong to Applause Entertainment. Waddhwa also hints at making the sequel of the series after gauging audiences’ response.

After impressing audiences with Season 1, SonyLIV has launched Season 2 of its successful streaming show Your Honor. Directed by E Niwas, the series is a remake of the hit Israeli show Kvodo (2017), which follows a judge who bends the law in his favour to save his son. Mahie Gill said, “It has been a delight to be a part of this series, which had a fantastic first season. As an actor, working on a show like Your Honor 2 was a rewarding experience. The first edition of the show was iconic in all ways possible and had a strong effect on the minds of TV viewers. Child marriage, though is an issue that is not much heard of, especially in the vast urban land, this evil social still prevails in the rural sects. &nbsp;Well, the second edition of the supremely successful show only means that it will be harrowed with comparisons from the past in every phase of its tenure on TV. Certainly, Balika Vadhu when it came on air, was huge and had a strong script with great actors. &nbsp;We at IWMBuzz.com will not want to review the new edition of Balika Vadhu by keeping into context this comparison factor. &nbsp;Let us understand that it is a huge challenge for the writing and creative teams involved in playing around with the same broad concept around child marriage, yet coming out having an identity of its own!! We are happy to tell you that Balika Vadhu 2 has successfully managed to have a skin and colour of its own in its initial look and feel and even with regards to its story build-up. &nbsp;Set in Gujarat, Balika Vadhu 2 starts off heralding the great understanding, friendship and bond between the best of friends Khimji (Anshul Trivedi) and Premji (Sunny Pancholi). The two of them can never shy away from giving their life for the other. While Premji was shown being saved from the clutches of the police by Khimji in the opening scene of the show, Premji has sacrificed a lot and has always prayed that his friend Khimji be blessed with a baby girl. &nbsp;The bond of friendship between Premji and Khimji has been beautifully encapsulated with sequences that provide goosebumps as well as tears of joy. Actors Anshul Trivedi and Sunny Pancholi are tailor-made for the roles they play. They are so natural in their emotions that viewers are sure to feel the strong bond of their love for each other. &nbsp;Actors Ridhi Shukla as Ratan, Anandi’s mother and Shiju Kataria as Sejal, Jigar’s mother provide great support to the men. &nbsp;We have promised our readers that our review is in no way comparing the first edition with the second. But one aspect that we want to strongly point out is that even though Balika Vadhu in its first edition had a stronger cast, this one is not far behind. Balika Vadhu 2 might not have big names like Anup Soni, Surekha Sikri, Satyajit Sharma, Smita Bansal, but the actors who have been gotten on board are very natural performers, quite capable of stealing the limelight on the basis of their performances. &nbsp;Adding more value to this statement that we have made, we tell you that one should watch out for the performance of Kumkum Das who has been an asset in Gujarati theatre and cinema. Her portrayal as Kadwi Baa will surely impress all the critics. &nbsp;Also, it is a revelation to see Rashmi Gupta, who was seen as a glam doll in Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega coming up with such a de-glam, powerful role of Leela. She has certainly made many people notice her for the class act that she is here!! Shekhar Choudhary who plays Leela’s husband is good. &nbsp;The story in its first week has been pacey, with loads of twists and edge-of-the-seat drama. We are simply in love with the ambience and the look and feel of the village that has been set up. The opening scene wherein Premji attends a mass child marriage ceremony was a visual treat. &nbsp;The screenplay has been tight, with no loose ends left for the viewers to pick up their remote. The drama has been realistic, with the makers touching upon varied social evils in the very first week. &nbsp;While the act of child marriage has been clearly shown to be an offence, with the police constantly being there to stop the crime, the makers have also got into the women abuse issue too. Leela is humiliated and abused by her husband Bhavaan (Shekhar Choudhary) as she is not capable of becoming a mother. Also, the dowry system and how menacing this social evil can turn out to be, in a girl’s life has been shown with the death of Kadwi Baa’s granddaughter Sarita’s story. &nbsp;Melanie Pais who has always played the modern girl roles looks proficient in doctor Sharda’s role. &nbsp;The wedding scenes of Anandi and Jigar were shot realistically. It will be interesting to see how Shreya Patel and Vansh Sayani get into the skin of the roles of Anandi and Jigar. &nbsp;Overall, a very good start considering that there were too many expectations from this new season of the cult show Balika Vadhu 2. Sphere Origins has handled this concept really well in the past and is taking this phase ahead in the right direction. &nbsp;Last but not the least, kudos to the writing team; the dialogues are powerful and strong. &nbsp;If only the comparisons do not diminish the charm of the new product, Balika Vadhu 2 will shine on. Hope the makers keep the storytelling as different as chalk and cheese when compared to the earlier edition. &nbsp;We credit Balika Vadhu 2 with 3.5 stars out of 5. &nbsp;

Although new to the industry when he started out, Waddhwa due to his business background has led Sphereorigins remarkably well and it is today geared well to fiddle and leverage on the future growth opportunities.Adgully spoke with Sunjoy Waddhwa to find out more and dissect the spirit behind the success. The following is the excerpt of the conversation.Adgully (AG): Please tell us something about the company’s journey so far, since its inception in the year 2002?Sunjoy Waddhwa (SW): The journey has been a wonderful learning experience. We’ve grown from a three people to a creative and talented team of 110 members. This journey involved a lot of hard work and conviction, as I was not even remotely connected to the entertainment industry. During the initial period I intently and intensely learned the skills on the job as I did not have a media background. Nevertheless, I learnt from the basics and carefully absorbed the working of each and every department of production. The media industry has a different method of functionality. Hence, being from a business background, I streamlined a lot of things and built an infrastructure from scratch. Today Sphereorigins proudly boasts of having six sets of 10,000 sq.ft. each,&nbsp; a lakh and half sq.ft. of open area for exterior sets, a well equipped in house edit suite and a professionally enhanced&nbsp; casting department. Sphereorigins has worked on different genres, like family drama, thriller, horror, fantasy,&nbsp; kids programming, telefilms etc…It has&nbsp; been God's grace and blessings that our hard work has borne fruit and has brought us this far.AG: Sphereorigins started off with production of television software and with time diversified in other areas too. So currently which are the key areas that the company manages?SW: We handle regional shows - Bengali, Bhojpuri, telefilms for Pogo in kids space, telefilms based on 26/11. We are currently diversifying in non-fiction and also working on a few feature film scripts.AG: The company is known as one of India's leading content development &amp; production house and has also won awards for popular shows on Hindi GEC’s. To what would you attribute your success to?SW: I think quality of content, high production value, ethical functionality and hard work. Success is a team work and we believe there are creative partnerships with actors, story/ screen writers, technicians. A very strong and able team has been a part of the company since its inception and we have a lot of talented people on board who together make a fabulous show.AG: How do you see production houses in India growing and how would you rate the growth of Sphereorigins last year?SW: Today if we see there are new channels coming up and the production houses have lot of work to look forward to. With an expanding bouquet of channels, new content would be required, thus we do foresee a good future for producers. One of the key functions in production is multi-tasking and changing with the times. In other words, adapting to different fields, giving high value of production and good content. Sphereorigins has grown in various fields of different content production with ‘A Capability to Adapt’, being its key strength. Transforming your ideas to the screen is a challenge where it could be made responsibly and still is a fantastic spectacle.AG: What are the major challenges faced by production houses and what major challenges did you face in the recent past?SW: One of the challenges that we face is to retain creative people. A major challenge that Sphereorigins has faced in the recent past, is taking over of the existing project /show- ‘Saraswatichandra’, midway and delivering without any hiccups with better quality production.AG: How strong is Sphereorigins in terms of delivering content for countries overseas?SW: With a capability of a strong production house of 110 people our strengths lies in various aspects of production, post-production and creative, we are fully geared up for delivering content.AG: What is your edge over competition and what makes Sphereorigins stand different amongst other production houses of India?SW: I feel the capability to adapt with the changing times in the entertainment field and delivering path breaking content is our aim. We are a determined production &amp; creative team. Sphereorigins is a one window outfit - from concept / idea creation to final product&nbsp; delivery. Ethical Thought Process &amp; Fair Play is our motto.AG: What are the current trends that you have observed and how are they helping production houses to strengthen their position in the industry?SW:&nbsp; Today audience's are willing to see a story of different relationships also&nbsp; an acceptability of shows in Seasons (26 12, 26 13). Different content ideas in non-fiction shows are being observed and channels are experimenting with different kinds of programming. Channels are catering to a brand of new audience in the age group of 15-25yrs.which in effect helps them expand their bandwidth and in turn contributes to growth. Thus, new viewers will bring more work for various production houses.AG: How is your production house bracing ahead to tap the growing potential?SW: Our idea is to create properties which are larger and concentrate on great scripts and talent;&nbsp;&nbsp; focus on ideas and scripts that have life beyond.AG: Please share some of the projects that you are currently working on?SW: We are working on couple of concepts for fiction shows, film scripts, non-fiction ideas. With a passion for making good content in either shows/ movies , a drive to excel in the entertainment industry and the tenacity to face adversity, Sphereorigins is positive to continue making bigger and better products in the future.&nbsp;&nbsp;
